Tasks in the project will include :

We will focus on the development of genomic enrichment methods to apply efficient 2nd generation sequencing or even 3rd generation sequencing procedures for the analysis of genetic variation, RNA expression and regulatory units such as promoters. These enrichment methods will be useful for many different applications in the life sciences and in diagnostics.

Furthermore we will develop standardised mass spectrometry procedures for the comprehensive analysis of common diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease. Clinical samples will be analysed by mass spectrometry on different biological levels, namely the genome (SNPs, CNVs, RNA expression) and the proteome. Data integration will eventually help by increasing the sensitivity and specificity of the diagnostic approach compared to conventional methods applied in the clinics.
