Project description
To develop and evaluate a panel of novel SNPs within 100 candidate genes characterised by a putative pathophysiological link to essential hypertension and/or its complication. These genetic markers will undergo initial evaluation, including the construction of haplotypes and testing for their functional significance, on the existing DNA banks: DZ twins and parents, and nuclear families recruited by EPOGH (European Project On Genes in Hypertension) study.
At the same time, TDT family trios (600) are collected in Glasgow, Paris and Milan. A special emphasis is on uniform high fidelity phenotyping, which is made possible by common standard operating procedures, stringent quality control system and common protocols for data analysis. A central database is being established with the ability to input all phenotypic and genotypic data.
